What is cancer


Cancer is the abnormal growth of cells that divide rapidly, forming tumors. The disease can affect most organs in the human body, including the bloodstream, and spread to other areas, such as tissues.

It is the disordered, abnormal growth of cells which, by dividing rapidly, form tumors somewhere in the body and can spread to other regions, invading tissues and organs. There are more than 200 types of cancer, grouped into 5 categories:

Carcinomas
Sarcomas
Leukemias
Lymphomas and myelomas
